Scholarship

GUGC is dedicated to help students by making education affordable.

Note

  1. All scholarship candidates are to be selected and announced in September, at the beginning of the new Academic year (with the exception of Admission Grants, International Student Scholarship, and Siblings' Scholarship).
  2. The listed value of scholarships in this document applies only for one whole academic year (i.e. if a student is granted a 50% scholarship, 4,500,000 KRW will be deducted from the tuition each semester making a total of 9,000,000 KRW for the academic year, proportionate to the tuition fee paid).
  3. All scholarships, excluding the Academic Merit Based Scholarship and bursary, are a one-time only grant for each student.
  4. In the case of any student eligible for more than one type of scholarship, the student can only receive the scholarship with the highest value.
  5. The type of scholarships available for March enrollers whose first academic year consists of three semesters (March, September, and March of the following year) are Chem²ath prize, admission grants, international student scholarships and siblings’ scholarship. The total scholarship value will be divided across 3 semesters for March enrollers.

How to Apply?

Students must apply for scholarships during the designated application period. Details regarding scholarship applications will be communicated via email.

Types of GUGC Scholarships

Academic Merit Based Scholarship

Purpose:
To reward students demonstrating academic excellence, and to retain the best students within the GUGC education stream
Scholarship Type:
Tuition waiver
Eligibility:
BA2, BA3 and BA4 students who have passed all of the courses of the previous year with a Weighted Average (WA) of 14
Criteria:
Students’ academic results from the previous academic year
Note: Calculations will be based on common courses and majors will not be taken into consideration
Announcement Period:
Once a year, at the beginning of the first semester of every academic year

Admission Grants

Purpose:
To serve as a tool to attract new students with difficult family circumstances or convince potential students who have received offers from other institutions
Scholarship Type:
Up to 15% deduction from student's first year tuition
Eligibility:
New students entering GUGC
Criteria:
Admission and Recruitment Office will first assess the student's /parents’ circumstances on an ongoing basis throughout the recruitment cycle, and will presents candidates’ files to the campus management for approval to offer the Admission Grants.

Bursary

Purpose:
To provide support for students from low-income families or who are faced with unforeseen circumstances such as financial issues
Scholarship Type:
Tuition waiver
Eligibility:
Both newly admitted students and currently enrolled students
Criteria:
Student must apply for bursary every year by submitting the required documents to the Student Services Division. Prioritywill be given based on the parents’ or legal guardian's income level
Note: Scholarships will be reflected starting September including March enrolled students
Announcement Period:
Once a year, first semester of every academic year

Chem²ath Prize

Purpose:
To encourage high school students to apply to Ghent University Global Campus (GUGC) and to find students who are talented in chemistry and mathematics
Scholarship Type:
Tuition waiver
Eligibility:
High school students who participated in the Chem2ath Contest intending to enroll at GUGC
Criteria:
Top four placed high school students in the Chem2ath Contest
Note: Valid until two academic years after the test has been taken, meaning that the student must enroll within that period
Announcement Period:
Twice a year; after the Chem2ath Contest is conducted for each enrollment intake

International Student Scholarship

Purpose:
To attract international students and publicize GUGC to prospective international students
Scholarship Type:
Tuition waiver
Eligibility:
Any new student entering GUGC who holds a citizenship outside of Korea and graduated from high school outside of Korea (dual citizenship excluded)
Criteria:
Students must present a valid passport and certificate of high school graduation
Note: International Student Scholarship can only be given to a student during his/her first year

Presidential Scholarship

Purpose:
To reward and encourage those students who have represented the university in an outstanding way
Scholarship Type:
Tuition waiver
Eligibility:
Students in BA2 or above who have shown an outstanding contribution in extracurricular activities, sports, community service etc. either on or off campus. Students must have a Weighted Average (WA) of 12 or above
Note: A student can only receive the Presidential scholarship once during his/her entire study period at GUGC
Criteria:
Astudent must be nominated by either at least five of his/her peers, one professor, or one staff member, through awritten document explaining the reason for their nomination. Acommittee comprised of Deputy President, one Faculty member and one staff member will then determine the recipient

GUGC Sibling Scholarship

Purpose:
To encourage the enrollment of acurrent student's siblings

Eligibility:
Any new student whose brother or sister has enrolled at GUGC (meaning that they are at least the second student entering the university from the same household)
Criteria:
Student must provide a Family Relations Certificate in order to apply
