Job summary
 
Departments:
•                KR01 – Department of Environmental Technology, Food Technology and Molecular Biotechnology, Ghent University Global Campus, Korea
•                LA23 – Department of Food safety and food quality, Ghent University, Belgium
Contract: 1 year, followed by 1 year on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation, and followed by 2 years+2 years (again on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation); for a grand total of 6 years.
 
Degree: Master's degree in (food) microbiology, or a related discipline.
 
Occupancy rate: 100%.

Vacancy type: Assistant Academic Personnel (AAP) Ghent University Global Campus, Korea (GUGC-K) has a vacancy for a position of research (50%) and teaching (40%) and university service (10 %) assistant. It concerns a temporary full-time position for a maximum period of 6 years. The goal is that the candidate successfully defends a PhD.

Starting date: As soon as available to start.
 

Profile of the candidate

•                You hold a Master of Science degree with strong focus on (food) microbiology.
•                You are highly motivated to get a PhD. 
•                Having practical laboratory experience in microbial laboratory techniques is essential.
•                Having practical laboratory experience in antimicrobial analyses assays is a great asset.
•                Having practical laboratory experience in molecular biology (DNA sequencing, PCR etc.) is an asset.
•                Experience in the field of biocontrol of food products is an asset.
•                You have an independent research and strong self-learning ability; a creative and inquisitive attitude is a must.
•                You are motivated to assist with the teaching activities in the undergraduate program.
•                You are willing to help with the final projects of (under) graduate students.
 

Job description

•                You design and perform high-quality scientific research in the field of biocontrol of fresh produce and processed fruit and vegetable products.
•                You publish your research results in peer-reviewed international journals and actively participate in (inter)national conferences.
•                You assist your supervisor in teaching undergraduate courses at Ghent University Global Campus, Korea, in the fields of food science or food microbiology.
