겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스가 산학협력단 출범 이후 발생한 첫 수익 전액을 학생 장학금으로 전환하며, 대학-산업-학생이 함께 성장하는 지속가능한 교육 선순환 모델의 상징적 출발점을 마련했다.
겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스는 13일 대회의실에서 한태준 총장과 유민경 엘바이오컴퍼니 대표, 그리고 박지혜 마린유겐트코리아 한국대표 등 관계자가 참석한 가운데 ‘발전기금 기탁식’을 개최했다고 밝혔다. 이번 기탁은 양 기관이 지난해 체결한 업무협약의 실질적 협력 성과로 이루어졌다.
특히 이번 기금은 겐트대 글로벌캠퍼스 산학협력단이 확보한 첫 수익이라는 점에서 의미가 크다. 산학협력단은 해당 기금을 확보한 즉시, 학생이 최우선이라는 원칙에 따라 전액을 장학금으로 전환하기로 결정했다.
한태준 총장은 “이 기금은 산학협력단이 만들어낸 첫 결실이지만, 그 결실이 가장 먼저 향해야 할 곳은 학생이라고 생각했다”며 “학생이야말로 대학의 존재 이유이자 미래이며, 교육의 본질은 결국 인재에 대한 투자에 있다”고 밝혔다. 또 “앞으로도 항상 학생을 최우선에 두고, 글로벌 인재들이 안정적으로 성장할 수 있도록 모든 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 강조했다.
이번 결정은 단순한 장학금 지급을 넘어, 산학협력의 성과가 다시 교육으로 환류되는 구조를 제도적으로 선언한 사례로 평가된다. 대학은 이를 통해 연구와 산업 협력이 학생 성장으로 이어지는 선순환 체계를 구축해 나갈 계획이다.

Ghent University Global Campus announced that it has set a symbolic starting point for a sustainable educational virtuous cycle in which the university, industry, and students grow together by converting the entire first revenue generated since the launch of its Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation into student scholarships.
On the 13th, Ghent University Global Campus held a “Development Fund Donation Ceremony” in the conference room, attended by Campus President Taejun Han, LBIO Company CEO Minkyung Yoo, and MarineUGent Korea Country Representative Jihye Park, along with other officials. This donation was made as a substantive outcome of the practical cooperation between the two institutions under the business agreement signed last year.
In particular, this fund is highly meaningful as it represents the first revenue secured by the Ghent University Global Campus Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation. Immediately after securing the fund, the foundation decided to convert the entire amount into scholarships, based on the principle that students come first.
Taejun Han, Prof. Dr. Campus President stated, “This fund is the first result created by the Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation, but I believed the place it should reach first is the students,” adding, “Students are the very reason universities exist and the future, and the essence of education ultimately lies in investing in talent.” He also emphasized, “We will always place students first and spare no support so that global talent can grow stably.”
This decision is evaluated as a case that goes beyond simple scholarship provision and institutionally declares a structure in which the achievement of industry-academia cooperation are reinvested into education. Through this, the university plans to build a virtuous cycle in which research and industry cooperation lead to student growth.
