겐트대 글로벌 캠퍼스 개교 10주년 기념 행사 열어
인천 송도 겐트대학교 글로벌 캠퍼스(총장 한태준)가 8월 23일 개교 10주년 기념식을 열었다. 10주년 기념식에는 본교 총장인 Rik Van de Walle 및 주한 벨기에 전 대사 및 부대사, 정부 부처 관계자 및 글로벌 캠퍼스 개교를 지원한 관계자들이 참여했다.
2014년, 유럽 대학으로서 한국 최초로 인천 글로벌 캠퍼스에 입주한 겐트대학교는 “Dare to Think”라는 교육 이념을 바탕으로 독립적이고 비판적인 사고를 가진 글로벌 인재 양성에 매진해왔다.
겐트대학교 글로벌 캠퍼스는 생명공학 분야에 특화된 최첨단 연구 시설 및 교육 프로그램, 헌신적 교수진의 노력으로 괄목한 만한 성장을 이뤄냈다. 이러한 성장의 결과로 누적 졸업생 취업률은 95%에 달한다.
졸업생들은 서울대를 비롯한 국내 명문대학원이나 영국 임페리얼 칼리지 런던, 유니버시티 칼리지 런던(UCL), 스위스 취리히 연방 공과대학교(ETH Zurich), 로잔 연방 공과대학교(EPFL), 미국 코넬 대학교 및 노스웨스턴 대학교, 중국 칭화대학교 등 세계 최상위 대학원에 진학해 학문적 성과를 이어가고 있다. 또 삼성바이오로직스, SK바이오사이언스, 한미약품, 셀트리온, 로레알 코리아 등 국내외 유수 기업에 진출해 생명공학 분야에서 두각을 나타내고 있다.
현재 겐트대학교 글로벌 캠퍼스는 또 다른 도약을 준비하고 있다.
지난 10년은 다양한 국제 교류 및 학술 연구를 통해 세계적 연구 성과를 이끌어 냄으로써, 국제적으로 겐트대학교의 위상을 높이는 계기를 만들었다.
특히, 2018년 겐트대 연구팀이 개발한 생태독성평가기법은 국내 수질환경기술 최초로 ISO 국제표준으로 제정돼 환경 분야에서 선도적인 역할을 하고 있습니다. 또 지역사회 및 지자체와 협력을 강화해 지역 문제 해결에도 앞장선다는 계획이다. 이러한 계획의 일환으로 지난해 충북 증평군과 MOU를 맺고 스마트팜 컨설팅을 진행중이다. 또한 세계적 마린유겐트 코리아 해양연구소를 개소해 해양 바이오, 환경, 식품 관련 연구를 진행하고, 글로벌 해양 연구의 중심으로 자리잡는다는 계획이다.
Ghent University Global Campus celebrated its 10th anniversary
Ghent University Global Campus (President Tae-jun Han) held a ceremony to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its opening on August 23rd. Many distinguished guests, such as the president of Ghent University, Rik Van de Walle, former Belgian ambassador and current Belgian Deputy Chief of Mission to Korea, and officials from government ministries who supported the opening of a global campus, attended the 10th-anniversary ceremony.
Ghent University opened its expanded campus into Incheon Global Campus as the first European university in Korea 2014. It has been focusing on cultivating global talents with independent and critical thinking based on the educational ideology of "Dare to Think."
Ghent University Global Campus has achieved remarkable growth thanks to the state-of-the-art research facilities, educational programs, and dedicated faculty specializing in biotechnology. As a result of the growth, the cumulative graduate employment rate reaches 95%.
Graduates are continuing their academic achievements by entering prestigious graduate schools, including Seoul National University, Imperial College London, University College London (UCL), ETH Zurich, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Cornell University and Northwestern University in the U.S., and Tsinghua University in China. They have also entered leading domestic and foreign companies such as Samsung Biologics, SK Bioscience, Hanmi Pharmaceutical, Celltrion, and L'Oreal Korea, and they stand out in the biotechnology field.
Currently, Ghent University Global Campus is preparing for another leap forward.
The past decade has created an opportunity to raise the status of Ghent University internationally by making global research results through various international exchanges and academic studies.
In particular, the ecological toxicity evaluation technique developed by the research team at Ghent University in 2018 was established as an ISO international standard for the first time in Korea's water quality environment technology and is playing a leading role in the environmental field. Ghent University Global Campus also plans to take the lead in solving regional problems by strengthening cooperation with local governments. As part of this plan, GUGC signed an MOU with Jeungpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, last year and is conducting smart farm consulting. In addition, GUGC opened a ‘Marine Ugent Korea’, a global marine research institute that conducts research on marine bio, environment, and food, establishing itself as a center of global marine research.
