겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스, 전국 과학고등학교 교장단 간담회 진행
지난 2월 20일(화) 전국에 있는 과학고등학교 교장단 및 교사 20여명이 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스를 찾았다. 과학고에서는 수학과 과학에 특화된 교육을 진행하여 STEM교육 프로그램을 제공하는 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스에서 연계 학습이 가능하다. 이번 행사는 ▲겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스 실험실 투어 ▲IGC 공연장, 소극장, 체육관, 도서관 투어 ▲총장님 대학 소개 발표 ▲자유토론 ▲오찬 순으로 진행되었다.
인천 과학고 정두원 교장은 “생명공학분야 진로를 희망하는 과학고 학생들에게 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스가 좋은 대안이 될 수 있을 것 같다”며 “특히 경제 여건이 어려운 학생들이 마음 놓고 공부할 수 있도록 학비 전액을 지원하는 미래글로벌인재 장학금도 있어서 우수한 학생들이 겐트대와 함께 성장했으면 좋겠다.”고 말했다.
겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스 한태준 총장은 “겐트대학교는 세계 최정상 대학으로서 대학의 역할을 다하고자 일일 대학 프로그램인 Science Camp를 진행하고 있다”며 “많은 과학고등학교가 참여하여 겐트대학교의 우수한 커리큘럼을 직접 경험해봤으면 좋겠다.”고 전했다.
한편 겐트대학교는 한국유미코아촉매와 지역사회 공헌 사업의 일환으로 사회 소외계층을 포함한 우수 인재에 대한 4년 전액 장학금을 지원하고 있다. 1인당 연간 학비 전액(2,000만원)을 총 4년간 지원하며, 지원 대상은 과학, 수학, 영어 분야에서 높은 열정과 성장 가능성을 가지고 있는 서울시·경기도·인천시·세종시 교육청 관내 고등학교 졸업예정자 및 졸업자이다. 자세한 내용은 입학홈페이지(https://admissions.ghent.ac.kr)을 통해 확인할 수 있다.
Ghent University Global Campus hosts Science High School Principals Meeting
Last Tuesday, February 20, more than 20 principals and teachers from science high schools across the country visited Ghent University Global Campus. Science high schools provide specialized education in mathematics and science, which can be connected to STEM education programs at Ghent University Global Campus. The event consisted of a laboratory tour of the ▲Ghent University Global Campus labs ▲a tour of the IGC performance hall, the small theater, gymnasium, and library ▲an introduction to the university by the president ▲a free discussion ▲a luncheon.
"Ghent University Global Campus can be a good alternative for science students who want to pursue a career in biotechnology," said Doowon Jeong, Principal of Incheon Science High School. "In particular, there is a Future Global Talent Scholarship that provides full tuition support for students in difficult economic conditions so that they can study freely, and I hope that excellent students will grow together with Ghent University."
"Ghent University is conducting a one-day university program, Science Camp, to fulfill its role as a world-class university," said Taejun Han, President of Ghent University Global Campus. "We hope that many science high schools will participate and experience Ghent University's excellent curriculum in person."
As part of its community contribution project with Umicore Automotive Catalysts, Ghent University is offering four-year full scholarships to talented students from underprivileged backgrounds. The full annual tuition fee (20 million won) per person will be supported for a total of four years, and eligible applicants are high school students expecting graduation or graduates of high schools located within the Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Incheon, and Sejong school districts, who have a strong passion and potential for growth in the fields of science, math, and English.
