제주테크노파크(JTP) 일행, 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스 방문
지난 26일 제주테크노파크(JTP) 문용석 원장을 포함한 6명의 일행이 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스를 방문했다. 제주테크노파크(JTP)는 기술혁신을 통한 제주의 산업발전을 목적으로 2010년 출범한 지역혁신거점기관으로서, 제주지역 산학연관의 유기적인 협력 체계를 구축하고 지역혁신 사업간 연계 조정 및 입주기업을 지원 육성하는 제주특별자치도의 출연기관이다.
이번 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스 방문을 통해 ▲마린유겐트코리아(가칭)와의 연구 협력 ▲해조류 등 제주 특화지원 활용 산업화 ▲용암 해수를 활용한 고부가가치 산업 육성 ▲구멍갈파래 활용을 위한 연구 협력 ▲생물을 활용한 탄소감축 방안 협력 등을 진행할 예정이다.
JTP 문용석 원장은 “제주도의 골칫거리인 구멍갈파래의 활용에 대해 함께 논의했으면 좋겠다”며, “겐트대의 뛰어난 로봇공학 기술을 활용하여 파래를 수집하는 로봇을 제작하고 싶다”고 전했다.
겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스 한태준 총장은 “생태계에 식물이 없으면 생태계가 파괴되듯이 해조류는 바다 생태계의 식물을 떠받치고 있는 식물이다”라며 “향후 JTP와 파래를 포함한 다양한 해조류 연구를 공동으로 진행했으면 좋겠다”고 전했다.
한편 겐트대학교는 1817년 벨기에 겐트시에 설립된 유럽 명문 종합대학 연구기관으로 세계적 수준의 생명공학과 농업 관련 기술을 보유하고 있다. 국내에는 2014년 9월 산업통상자원부와 인천시 공동프로젝트를 통해 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스를 개교했으며, 분자생명·식품·환경공학 분야에서 세계적 수준의 연구력과 국제적인 네트워크를 갖추고 있다.
“A Group from Jeju Technopark (JTP) visits Ghent University Global Campus”
Six individuals, including Moon Yong-seok, the director of Jeju Techno Park (JTP), visited the Ghent University Global Campus on the 26th. Established in 2010, Jeju Technopark (JTP) is a regional innovation hub dedicated to leveraging technological innovation for Jeju's economic growth. It organizes links between regional innovation initiatives, fosters a framework of collaboration between business and university in the Jeju region, and provides assistance to tenant enterprises. It is an organization for support and development and is also funded by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
This visit to the Ghent University Global Campus has resulted in: ▲ research collaboration with Marine Youth Korea (tentative name); ▲ industrialization with Jeju's specialized resource, such as seaweed; ▲ high-value industry cultivation using lava seawater; ▲ research collaboration for seaweed utilization; ▲ cooperation on biological methods of carbon reduction, etc.
Director of JTP Moon Yong-seok stated, "I hope we can discuss together the use of seaweed, which is a problem on Jeju Island,” and went on, "I want to build a robot that collects seaweed using the excellent robotics technology from Ghent University.”
"Seaweeds are plants that support plants in the marine ecosystem, just as the ecosystem would be destroyed if there were no plants in it,” stated Han Tae-jun, President of Ghent University Global Campus. In the future, he said, "I hope to collaborate on research on various seaweeds, including sea lettuce, with JTP.”
Meanwhile, Ghent University is a prestigious European university research facility that was founded in 1817 in Ghent, Belgium, and is home to cutting-edge innovations in both biotechnology and agriculture. In the areas of molecular life, food, and environmental engineering, the Ghent University Global Campus in Korea, which was established in September 2014 as a result of a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy and Incheon City, has outstanding research capabilities and global networks.
