겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스 일행, 아일랜드 대사관 방문
지난 1월 15일(월) 겐트대 글로벌캠퍼스의 한태준 총장, Mahta Mirzaei 교수, 박지혜 교수, Di Wu 교수, 이호준 박사가 아일랜드 대사관을 찾았다. 이번 방문을 통해 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스와 아일랜드 대사관은 ▲올해 8월 설립 예정인 마린유겐트코리아(가칭)와 함께 해양 R&D 공동기술 개발 ▲해조류 관련 연구 협력 등을 진행할 예정이다.
Michelle 아일랜드 대사관은 “아일랜드는 해조류 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있는 나라로 올해 마린유겐트코리아(가칭)가 개소하면 함께 협력해서 시너지 효과를 낼 수 있도록 하겠다.”고 말했다.
한태준 겐트대학교 총장은“겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스는 해조류를 이용한 초콜릿, 미세조류를 활용한 탄소 저감 & 신재생 에너지 사업을 진행하고 있다.”며 “향후 아일랜드와의 협력을 통해 산학협력 연구 범위를 확대해 나갈 예정”이라고 밝혔다.
한편 세계 최대 해양 융복합연구소인 겐트대 ‘마린유겐트’는 해양·환경·바이오 융복합 연구 및 기술 사업화를 목적으로 지난 2012년 설립됐으며, 마린유겐트코리아(가칭)는 산업통상자원부와 인천경제자유구역청의 심의 절차를 통과하여 2024년 내로 인천 송도의 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스에 설립될 예정이다.
Ghent University Global Campus delegation visits the Irish Embassy
Last Monday, January 15th, Ghent University Global Campus President Dr. Taejun Han, Prof. Mahta Mirzaei, Prof. Jihae Park, Prof. Di Wu and Dr. Hojun Lee visited the Irish Embassy. Through this visit, Ghent University Global Campus and the Irish Embassy will ▲ develop marine R&D joint technologies with Marine@UGent Korea (tentative name), which is scheduled to be founded in August this year ▲ collaborate on research related to seaweed.
"Ireland is an active country in seaweed research, and when Marine@UGent Korea (tentative name) launches this year, we will work together to achieve a positive outcome," said the Irish Ambassador Michelle Winthrop.
"Ghent University Global Campus is working on carbon reduction and renewable energy projects such as seaweed-based chocolate and microalgae," said Dr. Taejun Han, President of Ghent University. "We plan to expand the scope of industry-academia research through cooperation with Ireland in the future."
Meanwhile, Ghent University's Marine@UGent, the world's largest marine convergence research institute, was established in 2012 with the objective of marine-environment-bio convergence research and technology commercialization. Marine@UGent Korea (tentative name) will be established at Ghent University Global Campus in Songdo, Incheon, within 2024 after passing the review process of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
