겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스, 2025학년도 봄학기 신입생 입학식 개최
겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스(총장 한태준)는 21일, 인천글로벌캠퍼스 (IGC)대강당에서 ‘2025학년도 봄학기 11주년 신입생 입학식’을 가졌다고 밝혔다. 이번 입학식에는 신입생과 학부모를 비롯해 본교 및 캠퍼스 관계자들이 참석해 새 학기의 시작을 함께 축하했다.
행사는 겐트대학교 총장 릭 반 드 왈(Rik Van de Walle)의 환영사로 시작되었으며, 이어 한태준 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스 총장이 환영사를 이어갔다.
릭 반 드 왈 총장은 환영사에서 “겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스는 지난 10여 년 동안 900여 명 규모의 학문 공동체로 성장했으며, 앞으로 국제적으로 인정받는 교육 및 연구 허브로 발전할 계획”이라고 전하며 신입생들의 새로운 출발을 격려했다. 또한, 한태준 총장은 “어려움은 여러분을 단련시키는 과정이며, 피하지 말고 받아들이라”는 조언을 아끼지 않으며, 겐트대학교의 학문적 환경이 학생들의 미래를 밝히는 중요한 기반이 될 것임을 강조했다.
또한, 브루노 얀스(Bruno Jans)주한 벨기에 대사가 축사를 전하며, 벨기에와 한국 간의 교육 및 연구 협력의 중요성을 강조했다. 대사는 "겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스는 한-벨기에 간 학문적 교류의 중요한 가교 역할을 하고 있으며, 앞으로도 지속적인 협력을 기대한다"고 전했다.
입학식의 마지막 순서에서는 신입생 대표가 다짐을 담은 선언문을 낭독하며, "겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스에서의 배움을 소중히 여기고, 학문적 성취를 위해 최선을 다하겠다"는 다짐을 밝혔다. 신입생 대표 마우리스 후스(Maurice Goes)는 마틴 루터 킹 주니어의 말을 인용해 “계단 전체를 볼 필요 없이, 첫 발을 내디디면 된다”고 언급하며 신입생들에게 용기를 북돋았다.
배지 수여식에서는 신입생들이 겐트대학교의 일원이 되었음을 상징하는 배지를 받으며 대학 생활의 첫걸음을 내디뎠다.

Ghent University Global Campus (GUGC), led by President Taejoon Han, announced that it held the "11th Freshman Entrance Ceremony for the 2025 Spring Semester" on the 21st at the Incheon Global Campus (IGC) Auditorium. New students, their parents, and faculty and staff from both the main campus and the global campus attended the event. They all gathered to celebrate the beginning of a new academic journey.
The ceremony commenced with a welcome speech by Rik Van de Walle, the Rector of Ghent University, followed by an address from Taejoon Han, the President of Ghent University Global Campus.
In his speech, Rector Rik Van de Walle stated, "Over the past decade, Ghent University Global Campus has grown into an academic community of over 900 members, and we aim to develop further into an internationally recognized hub for education and research." He also encouraged the first-year students as they embarked on their new academic endeavors. President Taejoon Han followed with encouragement, saying, "Difficulties are a process that strengthens you. Do not avoid them—embrace them." He emphasized that the academic environment at Ghent University would serve as a crucial foundation for shaping students' futures.
The ceremony also featured Bruno Jans, the Ambassador of Belgium to Korea, who delivered a congratulatory speech. He highlighted the significance of academic and research collaboration between Belgium and Korea, stating, "Ghent University Global Campus plays a vital role as a bridge for academic exchange between Belgium and Korea. I look forward to continued cooperation in the future."
The event concluded with a pledge declaration by the student representative, affirming their commitment to academic excellence at Ghent University Global Campus. Maurice Goes, the student representative, quoted Martin Luther King Jr., saying, "You don't have to see the whole staircase; just take the first step." His words inspired his fellow first-year students as they embarked on their university journey.
Additionally, during the badge conferral ceremony, new students received a badge symbolizing their official membership in the Ghent University community, marking the beginning of their academic journey.
