2025년 5월 16일, 인천글로벌캠퍼스(IGC) 강당에서 개최된 2025 IGC 리서치 쇼케이스에 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스(GUGC)가 참여해 학문 간 융합과 창의적 탐구의 진면목을 선보였다.
이번 쇼케이스는 IGC 소속 4개 대학이 함께하는 연례 행사로, 학생과 연구자가 주도한 최신 연구 성과를 공유하고 교류하는 장이다.
GUGC는 학부생, 대학원생, 박사후연구원, 교수진이 함께 참여해 AI 기반 의료 분석, 유전체 편집 기술,커피 품질 판별, 이미지 스타일 전이 등 일상과 과학이 맞닿은 다채로운 주제를 포스터로 전시해 주목을 받았다.
특히 GUGC 학부생들은 전공 지식을 바탕으로 독창적인 연구 아이디어를 도출하고, 이를 실제 프로젝트로 구현하며 문제 해결 능력과 융합적 사고력을 뚜렷하게 드러냈다.
이는 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스가 지향하는 ‘연구 중심 학부 교육’의 성과를 상징적으로 보여주는 사례로 평가받고 있다.
GUGC 교수진은 행사 심사 및 운영에도 적극 참여하며, 타 대학 교수진과의 협력을 통해 학제 간 공동연구의 토대를 마련하는 뜻깊은 교류의 시간도 가졌다.
올해 쇼케이스는 단순한 전시를 넘어, 고등학생들에게도 열린 행사로 운영되었다.
현장을 찾은 신송고등학교 2학년 유창민 학생은 “일상과 연결된 흥미로운 주제가 많았고, 한국어로 친절히 설명해 주셔서 쉽게 이해할 수 있었다”고 소감을 전하며 GUGC 학생들의 연구에 큰 관심을 보였다.
GUGC 참가자들은 생명과학, 환경 지속 가능성 등 대학의 대표 연구 분야를 기반으로 프로젝트를 수행했으며,이는 겐트대학교의 교육 철학인 Dare to Think를 실천에 옮기는 과정이기도 했다.

A Celebration of Interdisciplinary Thinking and Student-Led Research
On May 16, 2025, Ghent University Global Campus (GUGC) participated in the 2025 IGC Research Showcase held at the Incheon Global Campus (IGC) auditorium, presenting a diverse range of research projects spanning undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels.
This annual event brings together all four universities of the IGC community, offering a unique platform for student-driven research and academic exchange across disciplines. GUGC stood out with its vibrant exhibition of posters on cutting-edge topics such as AI-powered medical analysis, genome editing, coffee quality classification models, and image style transfer—demonstrating how science meets everyday life.
GUGC undergraduate students particularly impressed audiences by transforming theoretical knowledge into original research projects, highlighting their strong capacity for interdisciplinary thinking and practical problem-solving. These outcomes reflect GUGC’s distinctive approach to research-intensive undergraduate education, where students are empowered to think critically and act independently.
Faculty members from Ghent University also played a key role in the event, contributing as reviewers and facilitators. Their engagement with faculty from other IGC institutions further laid the groundwork for future inter-university collaboration and interdisciplinary research.
This year’s showcase extended its reach to local high school students, offering them a glimpse into university-level research. Changmin Yoo, a second-year student from Sinsong High School, shared, “Many of the topics were closely related to everyday life, and the Korean explanations made it easy to understand,” expressing genuine interest in the students’ work.
GUGC participants based their projects on key research areas such as life sciences and environmental sustainability, directly reflecting the university’s academic philosophy of Dare to Think—an invitation to question, innovate, and go beyond boundaries.
Looking ahead, Ghent University Global Campus remains committed to strengthening its research-driven undergraduate education.
