Job Summary

Wet Lab Technician  – Ghent University Global Campus

Main Roles: Managing and installing educational labs at GUGC

 This person should have a BSc in Chemistry and/or Biology, previous experience in preparation of labs for education will be considered an advantage. The knowledge of lab safety regulations is required together with an ability to communicate fluently in English and Korean.  This person will work according to the needs of wet lab professors and schedule of practical courses.

job description:

  1. Management of the educational labs:

    1. Preparing in advance equipment, materials, and reagents needed for practical courses held in the rooms:. This includes the following courses: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biological Analysis, Molecular Biology, General Biology, Animal Biology, Plant Biology, Plant Physiology

    2. Clean up of the room and equipment after practical courses

    3. Preparation of a working schedule according to given practical courses

    4. Preparation of check lists with equipment, materials, and reagents needed per course courses

    5. Organization of the equipment in the room

    6. Operation of an autoclave

    7. Waste disposal

    8. Providing oversight in terms of lab safety, and replenishments of items belonging to the first aid kit present in the educational labs

    9. Equipment maintenance (regular checks, calibration, clean up, replenishment)

    10. Preparation of an inventory of an existing equipment and reagents needed for different practical courses

    11. Preparation of purchase orders (together with a purchase manager and research centers) of items related to educational equipment, materials, and reagents

    12. Assistance during practical courses

 

Required Skills

  • BSc in Chemistry and/or Biology

  • < >xperience in terms of practical course support, and experience in an international academic education setting are an advantage.

    The ability to support high-quality scientific research.

  • The willingness to work with experimental animal models and the dedication to respect the highest ethical requirements and applicable standards.

  • Strong English and Korean communication skills in both speaking and writing will enable you to mediate communication with Korean companies, equipment/reagent providers, and outsourcing partners.

  • Excellent service oriented mind and a pro-active attitude with the maturity to deal with stressful situations and a strong sense of responsibility.

  • The ability to work independently, have strong self-learning ability, and maintain an excellent team spirit as well as strong working ethics.

  • Willingness to occasionally work flexible working hours as participation in events outside of regular working hours.
